“Why wasn’t this perfume sold and the money given to the poor? It was worth a year’s wages.[a]” 6 He did not say this because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief; as keeper of the money bag, he used to help himself to what was put into it.
“Leave her alone,” Jesus replied. “It was intended that she should save this perfume for the day of my burial.”
Do you ever find yourself asking these questions: Is serving Jesus worth it? Am I wasting my life? Is it all in vein?
If you are living a life of extravagant devotion to the King, then yes, you are wasting your life. You are wasting your life on complete Beauty, the only One who is worthy. So, waste it all. Lay it all down. Break the alabaster box, because, you are a jar of clay housing a far greater treasure. Jesus is worthy of all our affection. He is worthy of a life wasted in extravagant devotion.
